Teltonika Dashcam Not Connecting to TCT? A Setup Troubleshooting Guide

Charles Alexis

Most dashcam setup problems come down to power, Wi-Fi, SIM or settings, and you can rule each one out in minutes.

The KeepCam and ProCam are new, so we’ll keep updating this guide as we see real-world issues. For model-specific detail, always check the Teltonika wiki. If you’re troubleshooting a Teltonika tracker rather than a camera, see Teltonika GPS tracker not connecting instead.

How setup normally works

Both cameras create their own Wi-Fi hotspot. You connect a laptop or phone to it, open Teltonika’s TCT configuration tool, and configure the camera wirelessly. TCT also lets you preview each camera feed to check positioning before the vehicle goes back into service.

The chain looks like this:

  1. Camera powers on
  2. Camera starts its Wi-Fi hotspot
  3. Your device joins the hotspot
  4. TCT finds the camera
  5. You configure SIM, server and camera settings
  6. Camera connects to 4G and your fleet platform
  7. Camera records and uploads

If any step fails, everything after it fails too. Work through them in order.

Before you start

Have these ready:

  • The camera’s IMEI, from the label or packaging
  • The latest version of TCT
  • SIM details, including the APN
  • Your fleet platform’s server address and port
  • A laptop or phone with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi

Problem 1: The camera won’t power on

Check the wiring. The cameras run on 9 to 36 V DC and connect to both the battery and ignition. If ignition isn’t wired, the camera may stay asleep.

Turn the ignition on. Many dashcams only fully start with ignition on. Test with the engine running or ignition at position II.

Check the fuse and harness. Make sure the harness is fully seated and any inline fuse is intact.

Check the voltage. Measure at the harness with a multimeter. Low voltage from a weak battery can stop the camera starting properly.

For more on power faults, see dash cam not turning on and dash cam keeps turning off.

Problem 2: You can’t see the camera’s Wi-Fi hotspot

Give it time. Wait a couple of minutes after power-up before looking for the hotspot.

Get closer. Sit in the vehicle. Metallic windscreen tints and vehicle bodies weaken Wi-Fi.

Check your device. Make sure your laptop or phone supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

Refresh the network list. Some devices cache old lists. Turn Wi-Fi off and on again.

Check the hotspot hasn’t timed out. Some devices turn their hotspot off after a period with no connection. Restart the camera and try again straight away.

Problem 3: Connected to Wi-Fi but TCT can’t find the camera

Update TCT. New devices often need the latest version. Download it from Teltonika’s site.

Turn off mobile data. Phones sometimes drop a Wi-Fi network with no internet and switch back to mobile data. Turn mobile data off while configuring.

Disconnect other networks. On a laptop, unplug Ethernet and forget other Wi-Fi networks so it stays on the camera’s hotspot.

Turn off VPNs. A VPN can stop your device talking to the camera on the local network.

Check firewall settings. Corporate laptops often block the local connection TCT needs. Try a personal device to rule this out.

Problem 4: Configured but not showing online

Check the SIM. Is it active, does it have data, and is it inserted the right way round?

Check the APN. The APN in the camera settings must match your SIM provider. A wrong APN is one of the most common reasons a device won’t connect.

Check server settings. Make sure the server address and port point to your fleet platform. A single typo stops everything.

Check signal. Test in an area with good 4G coverage before assuming a fault. Underground car parks and workshops are bad places to test.

Check the platform side. Has the camera’s IMEI been added to your fleet platform? Many platforms ignore unknown devices.

Our general guides to 4G dash cams not connecting and Teltonika trackers going offline cover the same principles.

Problem 5: A camera module shows no picture

Reseat the connectors. Loose connections are the usual cause, especially on long cable runs.

Check the channel is enabled. A module can be connected but switched off in settings.

Check the cable route. Cables pinched in doors or trim can be damaged during install.

Preview it in TCT. Use the live preview to confirm the feed and angle.

Swap modules. If you have a spare, swap it in to see whether the fault follows the module or the channel.

Problem 6: No recordings on the camera

Check storage. Make sure storage is installed and formatted correctly, and that recording is enabled for that channel. See dash cam SD card error and dash cam won’t read SD card.

Check work mode. Some modes only record on events. Confirm the camera is set to record the way you expect.

Check the clock. A wrong date or time can make footage hard to find. Check the camera has synced.

More in our guide to dash cam not recording.

Problem 7: Live view won’t load on the platform

The camera may be online but struggling to stream. Check signal strength, data allowance and how many channels you’re trying to watch at once. See live dash cam footage not loading.

When to update firmware

If the camera behaves oddly after you’ve checked everything above, update the firmware through TCT. New products often get early fixes. Note the version before and after.

When to factory reset

As a last resort, factory reset and configure from scratch. Save your settings first, so you don’t have to rebuild them by hand.

Still stuck?

Contact your supplier or Teltonika support with:

  • The device IMEI
  • Firmware and TCT version
  • What you’ve tried
  • Photos of the wiring and LEDs if possible

FAQ

Why does the camera go offline at night?

Check whether it’s set to sleep with ignition off. That’s normal behaviour, not a fault, unless you need parking mode.

Can I configure the camera without a laptop?

Check whether a mobile version of TCT supports your model.

Do I need to configure every camera by hand?

For large rollouts, save a configuration file and load it onto each camera.
