What digital tracking actually means

Most cars built from 2019 onwards leave the factory already connected. The systems that power live navigation, breakdown alerts and the manufacturer's own app all rely on a connection built into the vehicle. Digital tracking taps into that same built-in connection to show you where a vehicle is, how far it has travelled and how it is running, with no box to wire in.

For years the only way to track a vehicle was to fit a device. That still has its place. But if a vehicle already has connectivity from the factory, you can often skip the hardware entirely and turn on tracking through what is already there.

What this check tells you

The checker looks up your VIN and tells you whether that vehicle is one we can connect through its built-in systems. Send one VIN or paste in a list, add your email, and we will come back to you with which of your vehicles are supported and what connecting them would involve. It is free, and there is no obligation to go any further.

How the check works

  1. 1Enter one VIN, or a list of VINs, one per line.
  2. 2Add the email address you want the results sent to.
  3. 3We check each VIN against the vehicles we can connect and email you the outcome.

We only need the VIN to check compatibility. Actually turning on the data for a vehicle happens later, with your authorisation, once you decide to go ahead.

Why built-in connectivity beats fitting a device

When a vehicle is already connected from the factory, using that connection has real advantages over installing an aftermarket box:

  • No installation. Nothing to fit, so no booking engineers and no vehicles off the road while it happens.
  • No upfront hardware cost. Across a large fleet, not buying and fitting a device per vehicle is a serious saving.
  • Nothing to tamper with. There is no physical unit for a driver to unplug or interfere with, so the data you see is more reliable.
  • Fast to switch on. Once a vehicle is authorised, it can appear on your platform quickly, without waiting for a fitting slot.

What you can see

Depending on the vehicle, built-in connectivity can surface:

  • Live location and journey history
  • Mileage and running data
  • Vehicle health and diagnostic warnings
  • Fuel level or, for electric vehicles, state of charge

The exact detail varies by manufacturer, which is part of why we check each VIN rather than giving a blanket yes or no.

The catch, and how we handle it

There is one honest limitation. Each manufacturer exposes its data in its own way, so if you ran this yourself you could end up with a different login and a different screen for every make in your fleet. That is unworkable once you are past a handful of vehicles.

We bring every supported make into one platform. Whatever the mix of manufacturers, years and models, you see the whole fleet on a single dashboard, alongside any vehicles you do run on our hardware. One place, one view, regardless of badge.

Which vehicles are supported

As a rule of thumb, the newer the vehicle, the more likely it is supported, with most models from 2019 onwards being good candidates. But it varies by manufacturer and by market, and some older or specialist vehicles will not qualify. Rather than guess, run the VIN through the check and we will tell you for certain.

For vehicles that are not supported, our hardware trackers cover the gap, so you are never stuck with blind spots in the fleet.

Who this is for

Fleets that want tracking without the install.Taxi and PHV operators, rental firms and field teams running newer vehicles can get visibility without taking cars off the road to fit devices.See taxi and PHV
Dealershipsmanaging forecourt and demo stock that changes constantly and cannot all be wired up.See dealerships
Vehicle finance lenders. If you fund dealer stock, built-in connectivity gives you VIN-level sight of where funded vehicles are between physical audits, without fitting anything to cars you do not own.See vehicle finance

Is my data secure?

Yes. Connecting a vehicle needs proper authorisation, and you stay in control of which vehicles are connected and who can see them. We pull data through secure connections with the manufacturer, only for vehicles you have signed off. The free check above uses nothing more than the VIN to work out compatibility.
